Day three.....Honokoau Harbor

There are plenty more pictures from day three but we'll start with our first stop. This beautiful little hidden harbor is mostly used by the locals...Like many of our great adventures, we found this one by accident.














Pu’ukoholoa Heiau Temple





Spencer beach right below the temple is almost exclusively a local beach. Those that live up in the hills drive down and pitch a tent for the day.

More Day Three.....

Another gorgeous botanical garden on the Big Island. Before starting down the trail, we were invited to hold these adorable little box turtles.





Down the first part of the path we found these beautifully painted bells and a few mallets. We all took turns making beautiful music….or trying to anyway.



There were many of these giant iron bug sculptures all through the gardens.

Day TWO....Kevin's Birthday

While the birthday boy and Jan were golfing, the rest of us went on an excursion to Downtown Kona.



We showed the family some of our favorite spots like….

And lots of our favorite places to shop





And you can’t visit Ali’i Street without having shave ice.









That night, we celebrated my big kahuna’s birthday at world famous Roy’s in Waikoloa.
But first, we had everyone over for appetizers.





























The staff at Roy’s was amazing. They inserted private birthday menus into all of the covers and brought out that amazing molten lava cake with the birthday message too. We had our own personal waiter as well. It was great having him available at all times. The service was fantastic.

The family was so generous. Grandma gave Kevin 50 big ones and some really sweet sentimental items. Camile and Jan adorned his head with a cool new fedora, and our Norwegian family shared a beautiful book all about Norway with us.
